Bibliostar is the exhibition of services, technology and equipment for libraries which every hear has held in Milan at the Palazzo delle Stelline at the same time as the conference organized by Biblioteche oggi with the cooperation of authoritative institutional and professional partners.

The thirteenth edition of Bibliostar will take place on the 6th and 7th of March 2008.

For several years exhibitors have taken up the entire area available and, as always, those who took part last year will be able to exercise their right to first option on the exhibition size occupied last year up until 16th November 2007. After that date it will be possible to take into consideration requests from new participants.

The theme of the thirteenth edition will be "Library rights: access to knowledge, intellectual property and new services". New methods of access to knowledge, favoured by technological developments, are having an impact on libraries and so it is currently a matter of particular concern to reflect on the system of rights (both old and new) which the library intends to guarantee to its users in order to encourage the circulation of ideas and scientific thinking as well as to activate new services. At the same time it is important to consider the rights of others (publishers, authors etc.) in fields such as intellectual property, copyright, the reproduction of works, loans etc.

The convention plans to propose a high level debate within the Italian professional community among the various parties concerned and to examine these subjects together, with the help also of contributions and experience from other countries.

As in other years, thanks to the choice of subjects of great current interest and the high scientific level of the reports given, we foresee an increase in attendance among operators and a high turnout of professional figures particularly interested in the theme proposed.

Over 2,600 participants at the event in 2007 have been confirmed that Bibliostar and the Biblioteche oggi conference are the most widely attended initiatives among Italian librarians. It is worth noting that one hundred exhibitors took part, representing the full range of services offered to libraries, including Italian and foreign publishing houses.

The presence of foreign firms was important also in the 2007 edition, reinforced by the participation of an institution like IFLA. During the course of the work the IFLA Secretary-General gave a presentation of the edition which is soon to take place in Italy.
